We were talking at work one day about my peer’s need to replace his vinyl siding because it had faded. I have owned various homes most of my life and felt so out of touch not knowing that vinyl siding fades! I also did not know that it is incredibly easy to install siding yourself (or so they say; I haven’t tackled that yet. I’m happy with my fade 🙂 What I have done, though, is revamped my shutters with spray paint and then did the planters to match. Really pulled together the front of my home – for $4 a can.
Another project that was a labor of love (and sweat and strain) from my whole family was the installation of a vinyl pergola. (Some of you – like my friend from work – are inwardly groaning: “You did a vinyl pergola? Tacky.”) But I don’t care. I wanted something maintenance free and durable and I absolutely love the outcome. The hardest part of that project was digging the post holes in clay. Painful. But it’s amazing how a structure that is so open and airy can still make a patio feel more like a room. I also built a patio wall myself. Now that was laborsome, but so worth it.
